CASEP originated at London Metropolitan University through the work of Professor Kelvin Knight in 2009. Through the years, CASEP sponsored lectures, symposium, and conferences and participated in associated networks such as the Political Science Association. CASEP hosted speakers such as Ronald Beiner, Alasdair MacIntyre, and Martha Nussbaum.

In 2021, CASEP moved to Providence College where it is directed by Professor Jeffery Nicholas. CASEP hosts conferences, sponsors two research fellows per year who deliver regular lectures, and participates with satellite sessions at a variety of philosophy and political science conferences.
